A New Bottled Beer in DPRK

We're always pleased to find the availability and selection of our favorite beverages - coffee and beer - increasing in the DPRK.

Sorry, did I say "always"? Because this new offering from the Rajin Beverage Company, "Triangle Beer" tasted like peanut shells and gasoline. It was probably the worst commercially produced bottle of beer I've ever had.

"Golden Triangle" is a local moniker for the Rason area, referencing the regions potential prosperity.

Still, the consistent availability of Taedongang beer in Rason is nice to see. Not only because it actually tastes OK, but until a couple years ago, Pyongyang-produced food products didn't make it up that far North.

Now a variety of processed foods are distributed as far away from Pyongyang as possible, suggesting that the market in Rason is big enough that it justifies the effort of distribution.
